Furious That Parents Aging? You’re Not Alone

Most of us come into the world viewing our parents as healthy, strong and everlasting. As we grow, and they age, the naive feeling that they are a perpetual part of our lives fades. Their hearing weakens, their gait slows, their memories dim, and for adult children the experience can provoke feelings of anger, anxiety, fear and frustration.

The topic of caregiving is not a new one, however it’s certainly a topic we pay attention to as it relates to caring for seniors. This article describes the challenges and some good solutions for adult children caregivers. My colleague Ann is experiencing this now as she cares for her 86 year-old mother. The section about communication and picking battles was a good reminder for her as she navigates day-to-day situations with her beloved mom. ~ Mark Carlson, MD
