We all know that it is important to maintain a well-balanced diet throughout our lives. For the most part, that is relatively easy to do. However, it can become more of a balancing act as we age.
We all need to remember that as we age our bodies change. Our metabolisms tend to slow down even if we are on a regular exercise program and are getting the right amount of sleep every night. This means we actually need less of the right kinds of foods to maintain our lifestyle.
Often, as we age we lose our appetites. Sometimes it’s because of changes in our routine and sometimes it is because the medication we’re on that reduces our appetites. It becomes easier to forget about eating a well-balanced diet or anything at all when we’re just not hungry and it definitely becomes harder to fend off any health conditions that may crop up due to inadequate nutrition.
That’s why even though our daily caloric needs are lower as we age it’s important that those calories come from good nutritious foods that will fuel our bodies and minds for years to come.
